Radiohead, Beyonce, and Kendrick Lamar have officially been announced as the headliners for the 2017 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California. The event’s official Twitter feed sent out a graphic with the full lineup of the acts playing the festival. Radiohead will play on Friday April 14th and April 21st, Beyonce on Saturday April 15th and 22nd, and Kendrick Lamar on Sunday April 16th and 23rd.
There are some definite gems beyond the headliners for each day of the festival. Father John Misty on the Fridays, Gucci Mane on the Saturdays, and New Order on the Sundays should all be quite entertaining in their own way. Sunday also has performances by Lorde and, surprisingly, composer Hans Zimmer, who will be doing a number of his noted film compositions for the crowd in the desert.
Still, the drawing power of Beyonce alone will be enough to make this year’s Coachella a huge success. Throw in Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead, and you have top tier of acts that should do an incredible number in terms of attendance. One must remember that a music festival is about the experience more than anything. I know that will annoy some “purists”, which, frankly, I have no apologies about doing, but that’s just the truth.
People will go to Coachella because it’s a major event, and it’s marketed as a major event. Never forget that. The ins and outs of booking a major festival like this are enormous, and it’s probably the best example of “You can’t please everybody”. Remember that when you are about to criticize the lineup.
Tickets for the event go on sale Wednesday, January 4th at 11:00 A.M. Pacific Standard Time. More information about tickets, the tiers available, and the festival itself can be found by visiting https://www.coachella.com/.
